MGSE for the ISSBartolomeo platform

The challenge

Bartolomeo is the first European commercial external platform on-board the International Space Station (ISS) developed by Airbus Defence and Space. This external platform offers companies and research organisations the necessary infrastructure for conducting experiments in the space environment and sounding out new technologies under the given conditions. Airbus needed mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE) for transportation and ground tests and this was developed and manufactured by RST Rostock System-Technik.

The solution

In addition to the transport device, RST also developed and manufactured the reusable transport container which was used to transport the platform safely from the clean room to the rocket’s take-off point and also the Zero-G equipment for ground deployment tests.
