Cockpit simulatorfor the DRLresearch platform ISTAR

The Challenge

The ISTAR program (In-flight Systems & Technology Airborne Research) of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the world's only platform for research into flight physics, flight control, flight guidance and unmanned aerial systems. It serves the development of environmentally friendly and efficient aircraft, propulsion systems, and pilot assistance systems (more here).

DLR commissioned RST Rostock System-Technik to plan and build a cockpit simulator for the FALCON 2000Lx ISTAR research aircraft. The simulator is intended to support pilots in testing new flight systems even before the actual first flight by giving them the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the new flight conditions on the ground in a realistic environment.

Lösung

RST developed and manufactured a cockpit simulator that faithfully reproduces the characteristics and functions of the business jet in terms of its cockpit equipment. The simulator can be seamlessly integrated into the existing AirVehicleSimulator (AVES) with projection and motion system, enabling realistic but safe preparation for complex flight tests on the ground. Thanks to the integration of two operator workstations, the simulator also offers extensive possibilities for intensifying and monitoring research studies on new aviation technologies.
